ISKCON, Srila Prabhupada & ISKCON Dharwad

Everything about the movement, its Founder-Acharya, and the Dharwad temple and its management — gathered on a single page.

The Movement

ISKCON — the Hare Krishna movement

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness has more than 650 centres all over the world — temples, rural communities, nearly one hundred affiliated vegetarian restaurants, thousands of local meeting groups, and millions of congregational members.

ISKCON belongs to the Gaudiya-Vaishnava sampradaya, a monotheistic tradition within Vedic culture. Its philosophy rests on the Bhagavad-gita and the Srimad-Bhagavatam, which teach that the ultimate goal of every living being is to reawaken love for God — Lord Krishna, the “all-attractive one.”

Founder-Acharya

Srila Prabhupada

His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada founded ISKCON in New York City in 1966. In little more than a decade he carried the chanting of the holy names across the globe, circling the world many times, opening over a hundred temples, and writing the books that remain the movement’s foundation.

His translations and commentaries — the Bhagavad-gita As It Is, the Srimad-Bhagavatam and many more — have been rendered into scores of languages and distributed in the hundreds of millions. Everything at ISKCON Dharwad, including the new temple now rising, is offered in his line and in his service.

The Temple

ISKCON Dharwad

The Dharwad chapter of ISKCON was established to re-spiritualise society and carry Vedic knowledge to every section of it. There are daily Srimad-Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita discourses, and specially tailored courses and seminars for children, youth and families, held all over the city.

Twenty-five young devotees reside at the temple, focusing on their spiritual and personal development. The temple worships Their Lordships Sri Sri Radha Neelamadhav, on the Hubli-Dharwad Bypass near the Old Narendra toll, Hiremalligwad — where the new cultural landmark is now rising at the same premises.
